Book Printing

The printing industry has changed immensely and the greatest proofs are imminent especially in book printing. In ancient times, only a limited number of books are published since very few authors are willing to write their books. You see books during those times are all hand written. Writing a book may take a year or so to finish. And of course we all know that handmade products are usually expensive so just imagine how much a book would costs during the ancient times.

If the actual writing already poses a problem just think of the problem in reprinting the same book. But thanks to the development of printing technology more books and other printed materials are easily printed today. Aside from that, there are also other options that are available to improve the quality of each book printed. As much as there are so many types of books there also numerous book printers and publishers that offers varying costs and benefits.

Book printing in its simplest sense is the method of having a book printed. But is it really all printing? Or is there something more to it that meets the eye? Book printing should never be confused with traditional publishing. Traditional publishing refers to the entire life cycle of a book starting off with the development of the book, then the creative design for the cover followed by printing, manufacturing, distribution and then the marketing of the books. Book printing is more of “your-own” publishing and printing scheme since you are the publisher and at the same time the printer of your own book.

At present there is a vast number of book printing presses already used by publishers as well as book manufacturers. Nevertheless, there are also local print shops that offer book printing services. The difference between professional book printing and your local print shop lies on the quality of the output. Books that have undergone professional book printing press procedures are more superior in terms of prints and then the colors used are more impressive compared to the quality of books that are simply done by inexperienced local copy shops.

An excellent choice of book printing company is one that takes the time to explain to its customers the benefits that may be derived from the technology in order to help their customers in correctly choosing the correct format, page count, ink type, colors as well as provide their customers with the quotes to help them with their budgets.

The first option for printing in color from home is to use a color printer that connects to your desktop or laptop computer. You first need a computer or access to one. The computer needs to have printer software. There are numerous applications on the market that provide templates to help you with printing in color.

These applications are generally inexpensive. You will also need paper that is designed for printing in color. If you will be doing a variety of printing in color, a good choice is a pack of paper that includes various sizes and styles. For example, paper that works best for color photographs is generally glossy. On the other hand, if you are planning to create a brochure, invitations, or business cards, paper that has a matte finish is probably a better choice.

Finally, you will of course need a printer. The type of printer you need depends on the type of printing in color you will be performing. Color laser printers offer the best quality, but this type of printer is only an absolute necessity when you need the best quality such as when printing full-color catalogs.

For basic color needs an inkjet printer will do the trick. Be careful, not all ink jet printers that offer printing in color are the same. Your best bet is an inkjet printer with 4800 x 1200-dpi. This will enable you to print the best quality. Even if you don’t think you will need such high-quality color printing, you may need to do so later in the future.

Your second option for doing your own printing in color is to purchase a commercial printing press. A printing press is the best option when you want to print large quantities of a project in color. You may not have considered buying your own printing press because they are generally very expensive. Brand new printing presses can be very expensive. The inexpensive option is to purchase a used printing press.

There are a number of ways that you can find used printing presses. The Internet is a popular choice because you can conveniently and quickly search for what you want. You may want to search Ebay, one of the top shopping resources on the Internet. Other options such as your local newspaper or auctions are great resources, but you will need to do a little legwork.

Like using a home printer, you will need a computer to produce the layout of the document that you want to print in color. When you are ready to print the document you just need to create your plates that will act as your printing template. Once you create your plate you can print as many copies as you need. The only disadvantage of buying a printing press is that if the machine malfunctions it may cost you some money to have it repaired.

Regardless of the option you choose, you can accomplish your personal color printing needs and do so without spending a lot of money.

A good way to start printing

If you want to make prints, there are certain tips and requirements you need to follow. In printing some images, you will also need a scanner too. To start with your printing activities, you must have a collection of images you will include like photos and scanned images. Know the kind of fonts you will use. You should be very particular with fonts and you should be able to figure out a nice font which suits your theme.

If you want it appear trendy, make colorful fonts but if you want it look formal make it lighter and simple. As long as it is visible and uniform, it’s okay. You must know how to use some special software for editing and designing. You must be able to have knowledge in Photoshop or Corel to make your designs more creative and that software are most preferred by printers if you want to make out even prints.

PageMaker QuarkXPress and Illustrator are some other options. If you are planning to focus more on fonts, it is advisable to use that software and it can easily be managed. If you make have knowledge in using PageMaker or QuarkXPress, it would be very handy for you. But If it’s your first encounter with the software, you need to know at least the basics of it and with exploring, the next will follow.

Some images when scanned appear not too visible when set on a larger scale. When an image is scanned, it may appear good in the screen after scanning but when the image is enlarged like thrice the original size, it is not clearly seen and provides a dull and blurry image. Sometimes, images are saved on a low resolution only so the remedy is to save it in a higher resolution.

The use of Photoshop is very helpful in clearing the images saved in the low resolution. It increases the resolution and the edges are sharpened. Effects, shading and opacity may be enhanced too. All you need is a little touch of art. It also depends on the quality of the scanner. In scanning, you can increase the line screen so that images will look nice.

But do not sharpen it to the largest adjustment. It may look not good so do not overdo it. Now in printing, make sure your printer’s preference is set on the right mode. And check if your printer has the right quality feed of paper and ink.

Are you an reader enthusiast? Well if you do for sure you have a better gratitude for the printing press services. The benefits it gives us made us luckier that we can now preserve and duplicate our books and other papers alike without using the conventional means of printing. But thanks a lot to this process for transformation in printing world had come to its fullest development.

Before anything else, did you know where printing press first originates? And how does it help the people? To further understand the essence of printing press lets have a closer look at its history.

Basically, printing is the process of making multiple copies of a document by the use of movable characters or letters. This process was actually developed independently in China and Europe. Before the invention of printing, multiple copies of a manuscript had to be made by hand, a laborious task that could take many years.

Printing made it possible to produce more copies in a few weeks than formerly could have been produced in a lifetime by hand. Invented by Johann Gutenberg in c1450, the printing press made the mass publication and circulation of literature possible. Derived from the presses farmers used to make olive oil, the first printing press used a heavy screw to force a printing block against the paper below.

The operator worked a lever to increase and decrease the pressure of the block against the paper. The invention of the printing press, in turn, set off a social revolution that is still in progress. The German printing pioneer Johannes Gutenberg solved the problem of molding movable type. Once developed, printing spread rapidly and began to replace hand-printed texts for a wider audience.

Thus, intellectual life soon was no longer the exclusive domain of church and court, and literacy became a necessity of urban existence. The printing press strengthens intellectual fires at the end of the Middle Ages, helping usher in an era of enlightenment. This great cultural rebirth was inspired by widespread access to and appreciation for classical art and literature, and these translated into a renewed passion for artistic expression.

Without the development of the printing press, the Renaissance may never have happened. Without inexpensive printing to make books available to a large portion of society, the son of John Shakespeare, a minor government official in rural England in the mid-1500s, may never have been inspired to write what are now recognized as some of history’s greatest plays. What civilization gained from Gutenberg’s invention is incalculable.

Now we have come to the latest development of printing press. Luckily out from manual process to the latest procedure printing press is still catering for the purpose of his creation…to give satisfaction to the general people by providing a wider information opportunities through the means of newspapers, literary pieces books and a lot more.
